System-Wide
Weekly Update #17
5
August 2004
This past week the crews on
the IC&E have been very busy unloading the curve CWR train and getting the
CWR program fired up on two different fronts to begin the CWR laying process on
the IC&E. The two different fronts
are Steve Koser’s CWR crew which will install curve patch rail from the east
end of the Mason City sub to just north of Polo Missouri and the LA Colo &
Sons contract crew who will lay the remaining 15 miles of CWR on the Calmar
hill project.
On
both properties, surfacing crews have been making excellent progress and have
surpassed the halfway point in the pass miles we expect to be surfaced this
year.
The
siding projects are also moving forward at a very good pace with the Elton
extension being completed and the De Smet siding work getting started.
¨
Equipment
problems seem to be mostly behind us.
This has improved the production on all crews.
¨
The
last shipment of ties for the DM&E project is on the property leaving only
the ties for the Florence connection left to be delivered
¨
Because
of the high business levels, we have been struggling somewhat with ballast
moves, however, with the end of the CWR outages on the DM&E, we expect our
ballast deliveries to increase over the next several weeks.
¨
Elton
siding was put into service on July 28th and crews have been working
on the Cobden, and DeSmet sidings with expectations of having all of these
projects completed by early September.
Dirt work was started on the Florence connection this Monday the 2nd
of August.
