Ties Monthly Update #10

12, October 2006

NEW CAPITAL ALLOCATION ALLOWS FOR INSTALLATION OF A TOTAL OF OVER 240,000 TIES IN 2006 SEASON!

Tie crews on both properties had a busy year scheduled in our original 2006 budget with over 150,000 ties to be installed by our crews and one contractor.  Just recently we have received permission to increase the capital budget significantly, adding nearly 90,000 ties to our 2006 capital program. The DM&E tie gang will install nearly ½ of the new allotment and a contractor will install the remainder of these ties, all of which will be installed west of Wall, South Dakota on the DM&E.  Crews have installed over 180,000 ties already this year on their way to 240,000 by Thanksgiving!!

¨       The DM&E tie gang, with Foreman Wes Rissuew, has completed projects on the Pierre, Black Hills and Crawford subs and was nearing completion of a 30,000 tie project on the PRC when the new tie allocation was approved.  This new allocation will give Wes’ crew over 40,000 more ties to install on the PRC to finish out their year. This tie crew now has less than 15,000 ties left to complete their year’s production.

¨       The IC&E tie gang, with Foreman John Thulen, has completed tie projects on the Marquette, River and Kansas City subs and will spend the rest of the year installing curve rail on the Kansas City, River and Marquette subs, as well as rebuilding Edmore siding and building a new siding at Ossian, Iowa.

¨       The LA Colo crew has completed tie projects on the Mason City, Owatonna, Waseca and Chicago subs of the two railroads and will spend the rest of the year installing curve rail on the Mason City sub and then CWR on the Kansas City sub project.

¨       The Railworks tie crew was selected to install the 44,000 ties on the Black Hills sub and started this project on Monday, October 9th.  The crew will work continuously until this project is completed.  Rick Hanson is overseeing the tie project and surfacing behind this crew

¨       All 250,000 ties now included in the 2006 budget are delivered to the property and most are unloaded on site. There are still about 10,000 ties that need to be distributed for the new allocation just received.
