DM&E Rail Train in Pierre & Fort Pierre Next Tuesday
Sioux Falls, SD – The Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern (DM&E) Railroad crews will be unloading rail in Pierre and Fort Pierre starting on Tuesday.
The unloading of the new 136-pound continuous welded rail (CWR), which is being shipped via a specialized train, will cause road crossings to be blocked through the two communities while the rail is unloaded. The unloading process is scheduled to start on the east end of Pierre at Lowell Avenue starting at about 8:00 a.m. CDT on Tuesday and would progress westbound through the two cities throughout the day. The railroad hopes to complete the unloading process by Tuesday evening.
The crossings will be obstructed for about 20 to 40 minutes at a time as crews unload the rail. The railroad has coordinated the effort with the Cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre to minimize inconveniences and to plan alternative routes for traffic. Drivers may have to take alternate routes through town, and as a result, may wish to allow for additional driving times throughout the day.
